Whether standing by your friend’s side or prepping for your own nuptials, getting ready for a wedding day takes tremendous patience and a lot of organization. You can pin, plan, pick and choose your way through every detail, but some things tend to slip through the cracks. Caring for your skin from head to toe can be one of those things! Busy days combined with stress can do a number on your skin, so it’s best to start prepping early. Here are some tips on getting your skin in tip-top shape by the big day!
Start a Skin-Healthy Diet
It’s best to start a diet that supports the health of your skin a year in advance of the wedding date. This gives your skin time to detox and build strength, hydration and resilience! Some foods to stock up on: watermelon, grapefruit, broccoli and leafy greens.
Schedule Professional Facials
Your wedding or friend’s wedding day is the perfect excuse for some extra pampering! Booking monthly facials with an experienced aesthetician will really refresh your skin. Extractions, peels and microdermabrasion will help exfoliate and resurface your face, but be sure to leave enough time for your skin to heal before the big day (at least a few weeks). And a special tip – you can reduce the depth of your pores and make them seem smaller by exfoliating the layers of bad skin with Glycolic Acid and other chemical peels, leaving your skin camera-ready and picture perfect.
Test a Spray Tan
If you want a little bronze for the big day, it’s important to test products or services a few months beforehand so any potential mistakes have time to fade. Laying in the sun or tanning bed is one of the worst things you can do for your skin, as it leaves it dry and prematurely aged, leading to fine lines, wrinkles, and sun spots. Exfoliate with a body scrub beginning two weeks prior, and schedule your spray tan for three days before the wedding date to avoid streaks or stains.
Don’t Forget Your Hands
You’ll want close-ups of the ring and bouquets, so taking care of the skin on your hands and cuticles is a must! Apply a good hand and cuticle moisturizer each morning for a few weeks leading up to the wedding day for hands that are ready for the spotlight!
Blend Foundation with Your Fingers
You should always blend your foundation with your fingers. Put a dime-size amount of your favorite moisturizer on the tip of your fingers, rub them together and start blending. The extra moisture will keep your foundation and skin from drying out and will make your complexion look soft and dewy.
Use an Eye Cream with Light Diffusers
In many cases, dark under eye circles are hereditary and the only way to reduce their appearance is by using makeup. Choose an eye cream with light diffusers, which reflect the light and make the eye look brighter. Then, use a concealer only on the dark spots. Look for one that matches your skin tone exactly, not one that is a lighter shade – that can make your attempt to conceal even more noticeable. And remember to dab on the color and do not tug on your delicate eye area.
Skincare aside, the best advice we can give for this special day is to be present in every moment! It’s easy to get swept up in all the tiny details, but try to take a step back, let your friends, family and planner worry about the little things, and soak up all the joy, love and bliss that this special day will bring!
